in May 4th, on 2009 by postmaster
In Renaissance, borders between disciplines are not those that we know today. The men of laws are also men of letters, up to date on editorial actuality, aiming to make a work and eager especially to resemble these great men of antique, at the same time lawyer and poet, magistrate and m morialiste. To return on a posteriori formulated differentiation between right and literature, such could be the stake of this symposium.

The objective of this symposium is quadruple. It is at once:
1. to take stock of the situation on one of the centres of literary and legal Renaissance, job which curiously made the object of no particular monograph (there are very different articles, besides ancient, in magazines specialised on this or that author but no publication of group until now came into the world).
2. recreate the conditions of production and of emergence of uvres of jurists well-read of Renaissance and therefore today make collaborate literary academics and jurists to include the different facets of uvres. Multidisciplinary approach, when it is possible (and for Bourges it is surely case), allows to make true discoveries and to renew reading and approaches. To read Montaigne without taking seriously its magistrate's course, it is to condemn in a myopic reading. It is a fortiori case for authors as Alciat, Cujas or Hotman.
3. to give an account of the very particular situation of Bourges in Renaissance, true home of culture (according to expression of G. Gadoffre) that is to say ephemeral place located on the pronunciations of a society to become who contributed to be productive surgical of effervescence which, left to the wild state, would have had only disruptive effects . It will be a question therefore of examining this amazing "alchemy" which made, a time, of this ancient royal city a leading intellectual home. It will be a question therefore, particularly, of seeing how the recent creation of the University in Bourges could:
- send of whole Europe of the professors and for the students (and not of the slightest: Alciat, Cujas, Volmar, etc.) and men of all horizons (From Fail, Hotman, Calvin, from B ze),
allow booksellers' establishment (and, to a lesser extent, of printers),
- grant an extraordinary audience to "local" personalities (as Tory and Aneau),
- crystallise problems by stimulating a reflexion on the "restitution" of corpus
- and favour the creation of a sodalitas between very much different minds. This one must besides be studied also from policies led by the big patrons of the arts and the political personalities of time, sometimes leading as Babou de la Bourdaisi re.
4. more still, to give an account of striking convergences between the texts of disciplines that they have even today tendency to introduce as completely distinct. The men of law and the men of feather are read, devote of rooms, write prefaces, etc. This inquiry will have to lead to wonder how the legal humanism, with his love proclaimed by philology and literature, could provoke jobs of some authors of the place. They indeed determine at the same time and a multiplication of translations of ancient (Jacques hake, abbot of Saint-Ambroix, they translate the Sycophant, Guillaume Bochetel H cube, certain Amyot of uvres of Plutarque, etc.) and a blossoming of original texts, written by local authors but whose influence will exceed widely the regional frame (Tory, Thiboust, Habert).
The study of correspondence (Second, Alciat, etc) will be in this perspective of a particular interest. They find there, much more than in the "technical" books, reflexion which shows how much literary stakes were present in the spirit of the big jurists of Renaissance. Different communications besides took this party.
